As you know by now Las Vegas is one of the hottest cities in the U.S. It’s not uncommon for desert temps to break well over 100 degrees during the peak summer months of June, July and August. Check out our tips on choosing your storage space and loading your unit in Las Vegas during the summer!
It’s important to think about what you will be storing in your unit. During the hot summer months, you may want an interior air-cooled unit to protect certain belongings during the summer. Although, a drive-up unit is convenient, you would not want to store anything that may be sensitive to the heat on the exterior of the building. StorageOne offers many air-cooled unit options and we suggest an interior air-cooled unit when you store particularly sensitive items during peak times of the year, such as photographs, certain types of electronics, and paintings.
Once you have an idea what you will be storing - how much space will you need? Our unit size guide can be helpful in making your decision. When renting a storage unit, it may be tempting to get the smallest possible space, but it’s important to consider what you will need frequent access to. It can be very frustrating when what you’re looking for is tucked away in the VERY BACK of your unit!
The ideal storage space is one that will allow you to store everything in such a way that you can get to what you need, when you need it. If you estimate that your belongings will fill a 10x10 space, you should get a space that’s a little larger than that so you can get in and out easily. Consider all dimensions of your storage unit. If your storage unit is tall, you can stack items on top of each other (safely, of course), leaving floor space free. Also, leaving small amounts of space between your items and around the inside perimeter of your storage unit allows for air ventilation within the unit.
Packing and Accessing Your Unit
Now that you have the perfect unit, it’s time to start packing and storing your items. Disassemble all furniture possible to prevent damage and double wrap in plastic sheeting, taking extra caution so that tape and adhesive does not adhere to the furniture. Polish metal furnishings to prevent oxidation before storing them away and try to store as many items as possible in their original boxes and packaging.
If you will be making frequent trips to your storage unit over the summer, try to plan your visits in the morning or late afternoon when it’s a bit cooler outside. Most of our StorageOne locations have extended gate hours from 7am-9pm. Take Breaks and Stay Hydrated! If the day you’re planning on going to your storage unit falls in the midst of a heat wave, you may want to postpone and take an ice bath instead!
